Liz and Max had a crazy fun backyard wedding at Max’s grandparents farm in Camas, WA. When Liz first contacted me about her Harry Potter themed wedding, I was pumped for something so playful and different. Flying keys, owl figurines everywhere, the signature drinks of “Unicorns Blood” and “Snape Bite”, they had hanging amaranths to represent the whomping willow branches, the trunk for the gifts, their officiant did the “unbreakable vow” during the ceremony, they had the family style tables look like the great hall with the floating candles and all of the flowers were color coordinated with the “house” colors. It’s unrelated to the theme but I would also like to add they had miniature donkeys on the farm (!).
When I talked to Liz about her ceremony she just said that they would have dogs in the processional and they were taking shots of whiskey as a first ritual “because of her Irish roots”. I love that she chased it with some Ocean Spray cranberry. Their friend and officiant had the crowd rolling when he too took a swig from the flask “so they could all be on the same page”. Throughout the ceremony everyone would go from laughing to crying in the same breath.
Something must be said about the dancing. It was a non-stop, breakin’ it down, rolling on the ground, doing a Irish jig kind of dance party. For hours. And hours. These people for real know how to get married. Even the dog insisted on joining in. Despite the more serious moments like the mother/son dance.
They had no rain plan for a June wedding in the Northwest but the weather for the wedding was perfect. The rain then came an hour and a half after the wedding ended. How lucky. It must have been the “Liquid Luck” each guest got in potion bottles. Their friends and family rallied to make this wedding happen and throughout the day it really showed how much these folks were cared for. These two were wonderful and oh-so-wacky. “Mutual Weirdness Forever”.
And a special thank you, thank you, to Beth Olson for doing a great job second shooting.
