People often ask me what my favorite thing to photograph is: Weddings are a rush and I do love the charge of emotion on a wedding day, boudoir feels very intimate and fine art to me, but I think right now my documentary sessions with families are my favorite thing to do, finding art in the everyday is a different kind of rush and I feel like these family stories are important. With the documentary session there is no interference and it’s just a record of your life. Making pancakes with Micky ears for Saturday morning breakfast, what it’s like trying to go to the grocery store with a toddler, going down the slide and flopping off the end, feeding your dinner scraps to the dog, and getting tucked into bed at night reading stories by the light of a hedgehog lamp – are a story to be told. It’s all important and it will be so beautiful to be able to see what a day in your life was like when you look back on it years down the road because life is so ever-changing. It’s all about the good, the bad, and the beautiful with these sessions.  If you find that family photo shoots are stressful at all, or your kids have no interest in having their photo taken, this is the session you want. Since I’m not asking them to do anything, there are no fights or fussing, no bribery needed. Sessions are either a half or full day and I have time to just find the moments naturally.

Alec, Alina, and Soren did my half-day session and had their own story of playing outside and roaming the neighborhood, going to visit ducks, lots of everyday moments at home but then spending time in bed because Alina and Soren got sick about half-way through. There were a lot of lovely moments this day, but I’ll let the photos do the storytelling for this one.
