Portland Family Photographer: Feels of 2018
It seemed 2018 was the year my family photography work really took off. I was pregnant and couldn’t shoot as many weddings, so that opened me up to the change. It was such a significant year, because my husband and I had been trying for a second child for over 5 years, and through the magic of IVF we were finally able to get that baby we’d been wanting for so long. This was the year after the worst year, when we mourned the loss of babies that didn’t make it. Uhh – making babies is hard, and beautiful, and joyful, and also strange that we’re even able to create a separate life inside our own. I can only hope these photos shows a little of all of that – about how hard, beautiful, joyful, and strange being a parent can be. The first and last photo and a few in between are of my own children, because we’re all in this crazy parenthood thing together.
Oh my goodness this are so special! So many real, heartfelt, storytelling moments. I really enjoy the one of the woman outside holding the babe with the dog and the girl sitting in her dads lap, and last one. These are truly inspiring 🙂
Not a single boring photo! Lady, you are a genius at documentary family photography. You seem to capture those fleeting moments that not even the naked eye catches. Got all teary reading about your story and seeing the sweet photo of your babies together. So happy for you! And if I ever have a baby, I will most certainly be calling you up for maternity photography and baby photography.
Kelly! these are so beautiful and emotional! and, your intro to this post. this is really a spectacular post, all your images mean so much!
It looks like you photographed a lot of really cute families this past year. I really enjoy the raw authenticity of your images and edits. I especially liked the image of the baby with the little smirk wrapped up in the blanket with oranges on it. Super cute.
Every photograph is so so so good. I absolutely love the way you document and photograph these families wow.
As always, you are the most wonderful of humans and these photos are raw and beautiful and perfect. So happy for you and your family.
