Indoor Activites for Kids in Portland OR

 

Keeping kids entertained during the summer isn’t always easy, so we’ve gathered a few favorite spots for those days that are too hot and you want to stay indoors, or just want something new to do. Some of these destinations are Portland favorites, while others remain hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Interactive Museums

Hopscotch – Step inside a colorful world of art installations where kids can climb, explore, and interact with creative exhibits designed for all ages. 

The Peculiarium – This Portland attraction is packed with monsters, aliens, weird surprises, and plenty of fun photo opportunities.

The Insectarium – Get up close with fascinating bugs, beetles, and other creepy-crawlies while enjoying the science of how they help the environment thrive.

OMSI – One of Portland’s most popular family destinations, OMSI features hands-on science exhibits, a planetarium, play areas, and a seasonal exhibit on the Titanic. 

Portland Art Museum – Explore world-class art galleries and family-friendly exhibits, and best of all, admission is currently free for children 17 and under! 

Indoor Pools & Waterparks

North Clackamas Aquatic Park – Featuring waterslides, a wave pool, and splash areas, this indoor water park is a perfect escape from the heat.

Mt. Scott Community Center Pool – Enjoy open swim sessions, a waterslide, and a lazy river-style current channel without leaving Portland.

Southwest Community Center Pool – This family-friendly indoor pool offers open swim times, splash features, and plenty of room for kids to burn off energy. 

Indoor Play

Monkey King Play House – This massive indoor playground features climbing structures, slides, obstacle courses, and plenty of space for younger kids to explore. 

KingPins Family Entertainment Center – Bowling, arcade games, laser tag, and food make KingPins an easy all-in-one destination for a fun afternoon indoors. Make sure to reserve lanes ahead of time!

Oaks Park Roller Rink – A Portland classic, Oaks Park’s historic roller rink offers family skating sessions throughout the summer and is open Tuesday through Sunday. 

Wonderwood Mini Golf – This whimsical indoor course combines storytelling, art, and imaginative obstacles great for small kids, all designed by local artist Mike Bennett.

Glowing Greens – Play through a blacklight-lit underground fantasy world filled with glowing creatures and creative obstacles.

Media/Arts

Regal Summer Movie Express – Don’t miss out on this deal: family-friendly movies on the big screen for only $1 per person with $3 off snacks every Monday-Friday at 11am. 

Mimosa Studios – Book a session to let kids create a personalized souvenir by painting pottery, canvas, or other craft projects in a relaxed studio setting, or buy a kit to paint at home. 

Voicebox Karaoke – Reserve a private karaoke room, order some food and drinks, and let the whole family sing their favorite songs without performing in front of strangers. 

Comedy & Improv

ComedySportz Portland – One of the most popular shows at the Portland Comedy Theater: fast-paced, interactive improv comedy games inspired by sports make this one of the most family-friendly comedy experiences in Portland. 

Curious Comedy Theater – Portland’s home for improv comedy offers family-friendly shows throughout the year, along with youth classes and camps for aspiring comedians.
