Portland Documentary Family Photographer: The Kuhn Family
I’ve pretty much adopted this family – Leslie, Ross and Oliver. I think it’s been a wedding and 6 sessions now, and the most rewarding part of my job is to continue to be the storyteller for someones life. This was my first half-day documentary session with them, telling their story without directing or alteration. A completely raw and honest telling of a summer Sunday afternoon in their lives. Spending so much time with my family lately due to Covid-19 has really made me think more about my documentary family photography work and how important the story of a family really is. We are going to forget so much of the “everyday”, that is part of who we are and what we become. To have a record of that is a gift we can really appreciate through time.
Also, Ross’s store we went into with ice cream – Daylight Vintage, is a vintage clothing *haven* if you’re driving through Silverton, Oregon or you are in the mood for a mini road trip – such good people you’d be supporting <3.
Awesome pictures!
This is a really beautiful session! I love how you make the everyday so interesting and impactful. If I ever have kids, I’ll be sure thinking of you. Portland family photographers are common, but you really stand out. Awesome work!
Ah Kelly, I am your biggest fan. These are beautiful! You capture such real and emotionally-driven photos. I’ve referred you to some friends of mine who are on the search for a Portland family photographer.
I’ve always though that day-in-the-life style documentary family sessions were really cool. Being able to revisit the family as they change and grow is also really fun. Keep the project going!
Kelly, these are amazing!!! I love them so much. Such a perfect moment in time – I hope they put these in an album!!!
